GDPR & YOUR DATA

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW…

In May 2018 there were new regulations introduced which affect the way we process and store personal data. At Horizon we continue to work hard to ensure that we remain compliant with these regulations.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) is a regulation by which the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission intend to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU). It also addresses the export of personal data outside the EU. The GDPR aims primarily to give control back to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU.

When the GDPR takes effect, it will replace the data protection directive (officially Directive 95/46/EC) of 1995. The regulation was adopted on 27 April 2016. It becomes enforceable from 25 May 2018 after a two-year transition period and, unlike a directive, it does not require national governments to pass any enabling legislation, and is thus directly binding and applicable.

More detailed information on how we retain and use Personal Data can be found by referring to our Privacy Policy. If you have any more specific questions you can contact our Data Protection Officer, Gemma Turp either by calling 01379 898474 or emailing gemma@horizoneast.co.uk

The REC

& GOOD RECRUITMENT PRACTICE

The REC (the Recruitment and Employment Confederation) is the UK recruitment industry’s governing body and it ensures its members are kept up to date and are compliant with UK and EU legislation regarding employment law. It also champions good recruitment practice, with a code of ethics and conduct policy.

The REC ensures all its members are operating within the recommended guidelines; asking all members to complete a compliance test every two years. The REC also keeps us up to date with any policies or directives which are brought to parliament.

Horizon are proud to have been members of the REC since we opened in 2011 and feel strongly about delivering recruitment best practice, to both candidates and clients as well as within our own internal processes and culture.

If you want to find out more about the REC and how they work to ensure good recruitment industry practice, visit their website here: https://www.rec.uk.com/
