New Increases to the National Minimum and National Living Wage in the UK as of 1st April 2018

Calling all employers and employees! Do we know what April brings? No, not just rain showers and April Fools day but it means National Minimum and Living Wage increases in the UK! Hurrah!

If you pay your staff the NMW, or if you’re a worker and earn the NMW then hopefully you’ll be aware of the recent increases as these will affect you!

See our handy info graphic to find out if you’re paying or being paid the right rate. You can find out more information here.

It’s worrying that many employers across the UK aren’t always clued up about this, despite the NMW rate increasing every April. If we come across employers who aren’t aware of the NMW we always make sure to set them straight and work with them to ensure they’re doing the right thing by their workers and abiding by the law. The fines are heavy if you’re an employer and aren’t working within the law regarding employment issues and worker’s rights to a national minimum wage. It’s simply not worth taking the risk.

If you’re looking for a new role that might be at the NMW pay level, make sure you check with the prospective employer before applying or attending an interview what the rate of pay is too. It’s a great idea to make sure that your prospective employers are aware of the new National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage as it can often speak volumes about the type of company they might be to work for!

If you aren’t being paid the correct rate for your age group, or are worried about whether you’re paying your employees correctly then we encourage you to speak to Acas. They provide free advice to employers and employees and will be able to help with all sorts of employment related matters, not just NMW queries.
